The Aquadom in the Radisson Blu Mitte is the largest acrylic cylindrical aquarium in the world, with a diameter of about 11 metres, and it is built on a 9 metre tall foundation. Filled with 1,000,000 litres of water, it contains over 1,500 fish of 50 species. The feeding of the fish and the cleaning of the fish tank is performed daily by 3-4 divers. This permanent display at the Jewish museum is called “The Void”. You walk into an empty well lit room that is 200ft long and turn a corner into a dark room that is equally as long but it has a pit that is about 3ft tall and is filled with metal faces screaming. There was an old lady that was telling her story of her experiences of being sent to a neighbor for protection who turned and whored her out to the SS officers that ultimately murdered every person in her extended family. Needless to say my jaw dropped talking to that fragile old lady. She says there is a metal face for every Jew killed during the great wars. The Jewish Museum Berlin (Jüdisches Museum Berlin) is one of the largest Jewish Museums in Europe. In two buildings, one of which is a new addition specifically built for the museum by architect Daniel Libeskind, two millennia of German Jewish history are on display in the permanent exhibition as well as in various changing exhibitions. German-Jewish history is documented in the collections, the library and the archive. This has some of the most disturbing displays I’ve ever laid eyes on. Luisenstadt Canal connects river spree with the landwehr canal. It suffered from low flow so turned into a sunken garden by Erwin Barth. This is the Engelbecken or angels pool and is used for ice skating and swimming. Most of the sunken gardens were destroyed during WWII an filled with rubble.
